These kids are riding in jeepneys, one of the most common means of transportation in the Philippines. The vehicle will take Reynaldo Areno's friends to the cemetery for his burial. Reynaldo Areno is a young Filipino boy who was killed when a junk collector discharged a pistol at his head as a sick joke, thinking it wasn't loaded. The gun went off and killed Reynaldo.
