This is in the pheresis center at UCLA. My brother is being "pheresed" (pronounced like fer'east), which is similar to dialysis, except that the purpose is to collect stem cells. A central line catheter is being used.
2 million cells were needed, which required about 4 sessions to collect. Neupogen was being given to stimulate stem cell production. These cells would be given back to my brother after he received high-dose chemo for his lymphoma. |
